Crazy Quilt Hearts-n-Lace Ornaments

I have been busy making a variety of Crazy Quilt Christmas Ornaments for a couple of swaps I am in. As you my have guessed, my theme is once again Shabby Chic.

Last year, at a yard sale, I found a piece of an old quilt cut to about 20x20. The colors were just too pretty to pass up so I bought it for .25 and figured some day I would find the perfect use for it. Well....that day finally came. I cut out about 12 little hearts and decided to make Christmas Ornaments of of it. First I embellished each one with various small pieces of my hand dyed laces - dyed them to match the colors in the fabric. Then I embellished each piece with beads, threads and ribbon. Once the embellishing was done, I put the hearts back to back and used a heavy cotton floss to outline the hearts in a blanket stitch. Just before I closed up the edges I stuffed each one with cotton. Ta da - now all I have to do is bead up some little hangers for them to hang on my tree. Hmmmm ... just thought - If you don't want to hand them from a tree, throw them in a pretty bowl as a decoration to be used year round.

  2. Nicki,
    Those are pretty!
I like the idea of them in a
    bowl for year-round! A wonderful
detail in room done up in a Victorian or Cottage Living theme.

These hearts have your NickiLee-style!! What a great project with
the old quilt, you just extended it's being!

    Enjoy Creating!

  3. I just love them! The purple behind them makes them look so warm. They would go wonderful in my lacy quilty sewing room!

Now I have to look for an old quilt. I'm putting together a CQ craft for the 12 days swap and an old quilt would save me so much time.

Of course, everything you make is cozy!

  9. Thank you all for your sweet comments. When it comes to my passion, it's a toss up between CQ & dying lace and I think I'm falling in love with them both more each day. It's just so nice to combine the two.

EverythingQuilts - stay tuned....I've just got to show everyone your beautiful birdhouse.
