I'm baaaaack! & June CQJP 2012

Hi All!  Well I'm finally back... been a long couple of weeks trying to recuperate from my shoulder surgery and I am now happy to report that I am sooo very happy that it's all behind me.  Surgery went well and now I am looking at starting PT next Tuesday for about 12 weeks.  Dr. says as long as I do what I suppose to do then he sees no reason why I won't be back kayaking in the spring.  Guess Nicki has to be a good girl.  Thankl you everyone for your thoughts and prayers and beautiful cards.

Laying around in a recliner for the past couple of weeks gave me plenty of time to think about things.  One thing I have decided is that I have got to try and take better care of myself now that I've hit that big 60!  So.. starting tomorrow I am embarking on a new exercise program = a slow by st4eady one at that.  My girlfriend Elaine came over today for a visit and one look at her was pure inspiration.  She has reached her goal of loosing quite a bit of weight and she looks Maaarvelous.  She told me of a great program - www.Couchto5k.com so I looked it up, printed out the schedule and will get started tomorrow.  I feel my writing it down here will hold me accountable to report in each week as to how I am doing.  I need to do this to get myself moving and feeling healthy again... slow and steady.  Anyone want to join me in keeping up with a weekly log in of how we are doing?   Seriously, if you are, contact me as I would love a partner!

I did manage to get a little bit of CQ in.  I completed my June CQJP 2012 Block - as you can see it is a bit out of my normal color range.  This block was actually part of a CQ Block swap and I was sorry to see it go to it's new owner - I love the way it turned out.

  1. You have been in my thoughts and prayers! I am so glad you are recovering well. :) I began running 3 years ago using the couchto5k program. My son was 13 and ran with me to train for our first 5k. It was a GREAT program. This year we ran the Warrior Dash (which I somehow survived...) Now I am seriously considering a half marathon this December (gulp.) I'd be more than happy to be buddies to stay accountable if you need one. :) Best wishes!

  3. Dear Nicki Lee ~ I've been thinking and praying for you too. Glad you have the surgery behind you and hope you do very well with PT, which can be really rough at times.

I love your block. I want to learn to make ribbon flowers and have a book or two on them. Yours are lovely. I love the colors in this piece.

Have a nice weekend ~ Love and hugs ~

My roses are simple spider roses - so easy and so much fun to make. Go to Mary Crobet's Blog and check out her stitch dictionary videos or check out Sharon Boggins.... great teachers!

  6. Hi Nicki, sorry I did not know you had an op as been away 9 weeks, so glad to read it was succcessful, being a shoulder it must have encroached on your stitching, stitchers given a choice I think would opt out for leg injuries rather than arm and shoulder!
Good on you with a fitness regime, I should join you but I am too lazy!!and a few years older.

  7. HI Nicki,

I wish you well in your recuperation with your shoulder surgery and going to PT.
I have been going to PT since June of this year for my right hip and leg pain. Getting better slowly, but mine is chronic, so I will have to keep doing PT off and on maybe forever!

Wishing you well in your couchto5K!!!

    Love and hugs,

    1. Hi Susan,

Ouch! I can only imaigne the pain you've been going through and hope it clears up soon. My first PT session was today ...think I could use a margaritta right about now! All I kept thinking was - oh no, 22 weeks of this!

  8. Hi Nicki Lee!
Well YOU may have been sorry to see this block leave home, but I assure you "the new owner" was tickled as can be to receive it!! (c'est moi!) I'm so glad you're continuing to recover. My doctor (back surgery) said walking was my therapy, and I am now up to 30 minutes a day. I am encouraged to keep this up!! I'll look at your program, too!

    ((((((Nicki)))))

    Love and hugs,
    Karen (wren)
