Is it cotton or linen? Do you know if it was made in the US? To me, it appears there are many different styles and dates of lace in it. Some of those, to my admittedly untrained eye, look like an embroidered pina cloth, point de France (which appears to be handwork, not machine), filet crochet, and other. I wouldn't be surprised if it's eighteenth and nineteenth century laces together. Please get this appraised by a textile conservator and let us know what you learn! You are an amazingly lucky lady! As a fellow owner of a beautiful vintage piece (I have an 1882-1888 crazy quilt), I know that the weight of conservatorship can be daunting! Good luck!Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05765115495938525371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1786245461889505812.post-78446457032937489592010-06-06T00:17:51.565-07:002010-06-06T00:17:51.565-07:00Such beautiful treasures!!What a feeling it must h...Such beautiful treasures!!What a feeling it must have been, to wear a dress like this!Lisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06134340531597459171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1786245461889505812.post-89009324117918220332010-06-05T21:00:55.917-07:002010-06-05T21:00:55.917-07:00Those photos are beautiful. And you certainly had a coup with this find.
I looked up the purse in one of my books and it was made probably in the late teens or early twenties and was machine made. It is in amazing condition from what I could see.
I will now go back to read the rest of your blog!Pathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13539722991699696891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1786245461889505812.post-785284263179155492010-06-02T10:07:19.093-07:002010-06-02T10:07:19.093-07:00Beautiful treasures there, Nicki! Mary Corbett (of the site called NeedleNThread) might have more info for you, too. You could ask her to have a look at those photos.gocrazywithmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04063066209331964997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1786245461889505812.post-83545248521295822462010-06-02T02:03:13.930-07:002010-06-02T02:03:13.930-07:00This is an amazing treasure :)
